Mary E. Kramer served in the Iowa Senate and was elected President of the Senate in 1997. In 2003, President George W. Bush nominated her to serve as a U.S. ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. Ambassador Mary Kramer (Ret.) has been a nightclub piano player, music teacher, public school administrator, retail personnel director, and vice-president of human resources and community relations in the insurance industry. Inducted into the Iowa Women’s Hall of Fame in 2009, her first memoir, “More Than A Walk on the Beach” was published in 2010. She has just released her second book titled “An Unlikely Ambassador.” Married to her best friend for nearly 60 years, Kramer is the mother of two and the grandmother of four.
